i am just a shadow sometimes ahead -- others behind maybe just a shiver of darkness or i could take up the entire room with my vastness i’m always there, but never noticed and disappear completely when light turns to dark at times, i lay groundwork, but immediately get stepped on as the limelight is taken up by the overwhelming presence of more more than me -- more than a shadow more than a flat, dark void that is with you wherever you go i’m there, but it doesn’t matter you’re the bright, bright light and i’m just a shadow

some of my favorite moments are when we’re lying in bed right on the edge of sleep i can trace your outline memorize your shape and feel your breath as you relax into a dream you’re so tense during the day these moments of intimacy remind me just how fragile you are -- that you deserve the utmost care

i don’t need to be the center of your universe as long as i have the privilege of existing as a single star in your galaxy i’ll have the comfort of knowing we’re in the same sky
